Check for Valid Coverage |
|
We are very fortunate in the state of Florida that the Florida Department of Financial Services provides instant access to every workers compensation insurance policy in effect. You can access this database at www.fldfs.com/WCAPPS/Compliance_POC/wPages/query.asp , once there simply fill in the information screen and it will show you policies in force.
It does not however, specifically reference Longshore but there is a tool that will help you identify whether that business has at least potential to have Longshore. That is identifying if the carrier with which they are insured is actually a Longshore approved carrier. Clearly just because the insurance company is Longshore approved does not guarantee that the specific business requested or were provided Longshore coverage. However, the absence of the carrier from the Longshore approved list is a fair indication that there is no Longshore coverage in effect. To access the approved list, click here.
The best tool however, is a valid certificate of insurance that shows Longshore or USL&H in the comments. If you have any doubts about the validity of the certificate you have received send a copy to your agent or to LIG Marine at FMCA@LIGMarine.com as we can often quickly identify inaccurate or misleading certificates. |
