Working Without Longshore

If you find that a particular business is not carrying Longshore coverage they are breaking the Longshore act and whilst the Longshore act does not have enforcement capability for lack of coverage until the time of a claim, the lack of Longshore insurance is Workers Compensation fraud in the state of Florida.

If the business has no Workers Compensation or Longshore coverage in effect, clearly they are committing a fraud.  But if they have Workers Compensation without Longshore they are actually misclassifying their employee and therefore paying a lower premium which is again Workers Compensation fraud and has been actively pursued by the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Insurance Fraud.

You can find out more about the Division of Insurance Fraud, their services and the way to report suspected fraud by going to www.fldfs.com/fraud/
